INTERACTIVE DRAMA
Resources on the Web

General Information

I have decided to put a resources file here - mostly for my own benefit. There are more and better indexes out there in cyberspace which I encourage you to use. I don't intend for this to be much more than an introduction, I've no grand designs for a comprehensive list since the lists maintained by others are already well enough maintained and I encourage you to use them (also, please let them know you appreciate their efforts). This is just a starting off point.

If you find a bad link or know of an excellent resource that ought to be listed here, let me know. Contributions can be mailed to Dr. Phillips via email to director@interactivedramas.info.

Warning: Some of these sites address mature themes and subject matter or contain adult content. They will usually have a warning tag and/or a warning on their opening page, but sometimes they don't. If you are a minor of if you prefer not to view such material, then you should proceed with caution. You are responsible for your own web surfing.

Index

Please, when you find someone's site useful, let them know you appreciate their hard work. That way they'll be more likely to keep their pages up to date and online.

Particularly Useful Resources

Systems Online

Here we have links to various interactive drama and freeform live action role play systems. Some of these are quite freeform and intuitive while others are rather rigid and more difficult to master. These may be of the theatre style or live combat style varieties. If you would like to add a link here, feel free to email me at director@interactivedramas.info and I'll most assuredly get back to you as quickly as possible. For a more developed list, please feel free to check out the RPGnet links pages listed below.

Interactive Drama Companies

Here are companies and publishers which professionally produce Interactive Drama. This is by no means an exhaustive list - I just don't have the resources to be that comprehensive. If you would like to add your own site here email me at director@interactivedramas.info and I'll most assuredly get back to you as quickly as possible.
  • White Wolf Game Studio - Publishers of the premiere (or at least most well-known and popular) live role playing game line: Mind's Eye Theatre set in the World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, etc.) background. These folks hare have been very helpful to me over the years and the help is appreciated.

Mind's Eye Theatre Troupes

The World of Darkness is often very gritty and dark. Some parents may find the themes too mature for young roleplayers. Others may only object to certain supplements (White Wolf has endeavored to distinguish between the mature and regular products but your mileage may vary). Personally, I don't find the material particularly objectional on these fronts but your children are yours to raise.

Newsgroups

  • rec.org.sca
  • rec.games.frp.live-action newsgroup - This is the main newsgroup for discussing issues related to LARP (live action role playing) forms of interactive drama in full-contact combat to theatre-style presenations.
  • alt.games.frp.live-action newsgroup - This is an alternative newsgroup for discussing issues related to interactive drama. You're better off going to the other groups.
  • aus.games.roleplay newsgroup - This is the main Australian newsgroup for discussing issues related to roleplaying games in general. This group actually has a great deal of practical discussion on "Freeforming", the Australian and British name for interactive drama style scenarios.
  • uk.games.roleplay newsgroup - This is the main British newsgroup for discussing issues related to roleplaying games in general. This group has some discussion of "Freeforming" and LRP (live roleplaying) forms of interactive drama.
  • alt.games.whitewolf newsgroup - This is the main newsgroup for discussing issues related to products published by White Wolf Games, including the Mind's Eye Theatre line of chronicle-style or serial interactive drama. You will also find some related discussion at rec.games.frp.storyteller although most discussion there seems to be in character rather than about roleplaying.
  • alt.books.gor - This is the place to discuss John Norman's Gor novels and issues related to them.

    Mature Theme and Adult Roleplay

Obviously all of the sites in this subsection deal with mature themes and have adult content. Minors may not access these sites and neither should adults who prefer not to view mature subject matter.

    Gothic

Obviously all of the sites in this subsection deal with mature themes - given the nature of the Goth lifestyle and philosophy. Some of these sites also have some adult content (although these will normally have warning pages). Web surfers are urged to use discretion.

    Gorean Roleplay and Lifestyles

Gorean lifestyle and roleplay is based upon the Gor series of science-fiction-fantasy novels by John Norman (also the author of the nonfiction intimate roleplay text, Imaginative Sex). Most of the sites in this subsection deal with mature themes and many have adult content. Minors should not access these sites and neither should adults who prefer not to view mature subject matter. If know of any roleplay specific sites related to GOR, please email Dr. Phillips.
